Pictures telling a story. Serene Maisey – Photographer & Visual Storyteller

Photography isn’t just about capturing a subject—it’s about telling a story through light, emotion, and perspective. That belief has shaped my career, from shooting high-energy sports action to spending over five years in the studio, mastering the art of lighting and composition to bring people’s personalities to life.

My journey has taken me across thousands of shoots, from the fast-paced world of sports photography to the carefully crafted storytelling of studio portraiture. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of photographing:

  •  State-level basketball, earning Photo of the Year for a dunk shot
  •  Motorcycle racing at Perth’s main track in Wanneroo
  •  State Muay Thai championships
  •  Major events like HBF Fun Run & City to Surf
  •  Basketball team photography for the Joondalup Wolves

Over five years of studio photography, using lighting to craft mood, depth, and emotion

In the studio, lighting is my paintbrush. Whether shaping a dramatic portrait or creating a soft, natural glow, I use light to enhance the subject’s story—not just their appearance.

After years of capturing people’s stories through photography, I started to see how powerful the creative process could be—not just in preserving moments, but in helping people explore their emotions, perspectives, and personal growth. This led me to train as a Holistic Integrated Creative Art Therapy (HICAT) Practitioner, where I now guide individuals in using photography as a tool for self-expression, reflection, and healing. While photography is my main focus, I also integrate other creative modalities to support personal transformation in a way that feels natural and engaging for each individual.”
